Emidio and Joe Talk About Sister Lucy of Fátima

In a quiet café, Emidio sits across from Joe, holding a small cup of espresso. The conversation drifts from everyday things to deeper matters of faith.

Emidio:
You know, Joe, people talk about the children of Fátima like they were just symbols. But to me, they were real kids caught in something huge.

Joe:
Yeah. Especially Sister Lúcia dos Santos. She lived a long life after the visions. Imagine carrying something like that for nearly a century.

Emidio:
Right. The apparitions in Fátima in 1917 changed everything for the Church in Portugal. Three shepherd kids seeing the Virgin in the middle of a world war.

Joe:
And the other two, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto, died young. But Lúcia lived until 2005. She became a Carmelite nun and spent decades explaining the message.

Emidio:
The message was simple though—prayer, repentance, and peace. But people always get obsessed with the “secrets.”

Joe:
Yeah, the famous three secrets of Fátima. The third one caused endless speculation until the Vatican released it during the papacy of Pope John Paul II. He believed Our Lady of Fátima saved his life after the assassination attempt in 1981.

Emidio:
That’s why he put the bullet in the crown of the statue at the sanctuary.

Joe:
Exactly. But what I respect about Sister Lúcia is that she stayed humble. No fame chasing, no spectacle. Just prayer and silence.

Emidio:
That’s rare today. Everyone wants followers, likes, fans. Lúcia just wanted people to pray the rosary and stop destroying each other.

Joe:
Maybe that’s why the story still resonates. Three poor shepherd kids, no power, no money—yet their message spread across the world.

Emidio nods.

Emidio:
Sometimes the quiet voices last longer than the loud ones.

Joe raises his coffee cup.

Joe:
To the shepherd girl from Fátima.

They drink in silence for a moment, thinking about a message that traveled from a Portuguese hillside to the entire world.
